Choosing your Wedding Photographer

Choosing the right photographer for one of the most important days of your life can be daunting especially if, like me, you don't enjoy having your photo taken. Once the cake is eaten and the dress packed away, your wedding rings and photographs may be the only visible reminders of your amazing day.  Your children and your grandchildren will enjoy looking through your photos, laughing at the fashions no doubt!. If you want an experienced, unobtrusive wedding photographer to take photographs that remind you of all the wonderful moments and all the gorgeous details, I may be the photographer for you.

Meet the Photographer

When choosing the perfect photographer for you it is very important that you not only decide upon your preferred style of photography but also meet with a selection of photographers to make sure that you feel comfortable with them around. I can visit you for an initial no obligation chat where you can view my portfolio, ask me lots of questions and tell me all your plans for your big day. I will hold your date for you until you have made this important decision.
I am a full time, female, professional, qualified photographer, (HND and BIPP PQE) with over 25 years experience in the photographic industry. Based in South Hertfordshire, I cover the Home Counties and beyond specialising in taking photos for couples who may be a little camera shy. I am fully insured with Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance and member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. I use a full range of professional equipment for capturing your images using available light for most of the day and the latest professional software for post production. I photograph weddings of all faiths, civil ceremonies and same sex marriages. Why not check out my about me page or  contact me to arrange to meet me for an informal chat.

My approach and Style

I love weddings and know how much time, thought and effort you have put into every detail and I put that same care and attention into documenting your story.  Your wedding is unique and I am dedicated to capturing that quality in the photographs that I take for you. I consider it a privilege to be asked to photograph such a special day and take great pride in creating images that tell your emotional story, not just a record. My style is natural, romantic, authentic, and my reportage/photojournalistic/documentary approach enables me to photograph genuine moments as they unfold in a discreet way, with an emphasis on the people, a sense of place, atmosphere and emotion. Not just the big moments, your first kiss, your first dance, cutting the cake but all those magic unscripted, unposed moments. The grooms face as his bride walks down the aisle, your proud parents during the ceremony, a hug from Grandma, laughter during the speeches.  My natural bride and groom portraits are taken whilst you go for a quiet walk (see below).  A few relaxed group photos can of course be taken if you wish.

Before Your Celebration

I meet with you at your venue to discuss your plans and take some pre- wedding photos. I don't like having my photo taken and so know how important it is that you feel comfortable with me and the camera. It is also an opportunity for me to get to know your personalities a little and hear about the type of photos you would like. The photographs taken at this visit are given to you with a License to print and share or can be used on a signing board or guest book on your wedding day or if booked early enough, for Save the Date cards.

I also ask you lots of questions about your day, such as timings, family dynamic and special needs your guests have. This means that I am fully prepared and you can relax and enjoy your wedding day.

On your Wedding Day

Capturing the essence of your day. I don't intrude, stop proceedings or tell people what to do! It's your wedding day not a photoshoot. For the majority of the day I blend into the background. The only time I will be evident is during any group photos you wish me to take. I usually cover from your morning bridal preparations (and groom if requested) until late into the evening celebrations. Normal finish time is around 9.30pm or when your evening buffet is served. However, if there are still unique moments happening, I will still be photographing them.  I work hard to tell the complete story of your day. I will also do anything I can to help make your day go well. I am often seen taking button holes and other items from the house to the ceremony venue, or helping with my emergency kit during the day (including safety pins, needle and thread, scissors, plasters, Rennie!).

Bride and groom portraits.

Even when the day is being captured in a documentary style most couples would still like a few photos on their own. To capture these I am a little different from many photographers. I meet with you before the day to discuss your favourite places at the venue and the style of photos you would like. I suggest things that work well in photos and those that don't and I take some for you to see. All of this helps to make you feel relaxed in front of the camera and gives us the opportunity to get to know each other a little better. On your wedding day you are then able to go for a quiet walk together visiting your favourite places and sharing a few moments alone. I am some distance away taking natural photos capturing your personalities and love for each other and not constantly posing you. This will probably be the only time that you spend on your own on your wedding day and you don't want to spend it with me!  No more than 15 to 30 minutes is usually needed as I also know how important it is for you to spend time with your guests.

After Your Celebration

I will take several days lovingly editing each individual photograph, checking colour balance, composition, contrast, amongst other things. All edited images will be professionally finished, including a selection in black and white (colour version will also be included) and supplied to you in High Resolution with no watermark on a USB memory stick in a beautiful totally unique wooden box that compliments your wedding day colour scheme and theme. You will also receive a written 'License to Use' agreement, giving you personal reproduction rights. A password protected highlights gallery will be available online two to three weeks after your wedding ( or just in time for you to view on return from your honeymoon) This can be converted to a gallery of your favourite photos for guests to view and purchase prints if they wish. Your usb will be ready to send to you approximately 4-5 weeks after your wedding date.

Albums, Coffee Table Books & Display

You can choose a USB only collection or include a stunning, contemporary album or book made by the finest book printers and binders in the country. The Fine Art Album is included in the Celebration Collection but I also supply a wide range of books and albums giving you a bespoke choice of style and size. These can be ordered when you make your booking or at any time before or after your wedding. Prices start at just £250 for a book and £400 for an album. Other stunning presentation ideas include: acrylics, block mounts, framed prints, bamboo prints, canvas, metallic prints, signing boards and signing books.
